Dani Update

Tuesday May 6th Danielle was admitted to the hospital with failing kidneys. A couple of days and several tests later they allowed Dani to be released from the hospital. They did a number of tests and took several cultures but it may be difficult to immediately diagnose the illness because of all the antibiotics she has been on over the past 4 weeks. The current guess is that she may have a medullary sponge kidney (spongy kidney disease – Visit http://kidneydiseases.about.com/od/kidneydisorde2/a/medullarysponge.htm ). Her kidneys weren’t functioning at a very high level, but with the current antibiotic, she seems to be much better, and has resumed her search for a tanning parlor job.

After school Brady was so tired that he and Lucky just had to take a nap.

Mothers Day

Michelle had an enjoyable Mothers Day. Don fixed dinner as usual, which consisted of a Caesar salad, filet mignon with béarnaise sauce, fresh asparagus, corn on the cob, rice pilaf (which took forever to cook), and a strawberry/blueberry tart for dessert. Michelle received several gifts, including a darling photo/scrap book that Emily made, an Enchanted CD, Victoria's Secret Lotions, McDonalds gift card, new projection alarm clock, Born sandals, Great and Terrible Novel, Vol. 2, Kitchen Aide Bowl Cover, booties, sports bra set, and candy. Thanks to everyone for the great gifts!

The Happiest Place on Earth?

We spent the weekend of April 5th at Disneyland. Actually, we had a lot more fun that the pictures indicate (we only took these 3 photos to prove we were actually there). Since Brady was going to spend the week with Emily in Texas, we decided to getaway ourselves. We especially liked the Broadway production of Aladdin, Thunder Mountain, the New Orleans Cafe, and Buzz Lightyear.

Family Update 3/30/08

Danielle spent Friday in the emergency room of Logan Regional Hospital with a kidney infection. They put her on an IV and gave her pain killers. She is much better.

Lucky took on a racoon and came out on the short end. He was bitten twice, and after his leg began to swell Michelle took him to the Vet where he was given some pain killers, antibiotics, and an X-ray. Fortunately, he leg wasn't broken and he is doing much better.

Easter Sunday

Before church, we all "opened" our Easter Baskets. Brady got some new shoes and a lot of candy. Michelle garnered some lotions, a gift card to get her nails done, and a fleece robe. Don got 2 dress shirts and matching ties, and lots of goodies. After Church, we invited the 4 Markward kids to join Brady in the traditional family Easter Egg Hunt. There were 23 prizes in all. All five of the kids had a good time.

What's Happening

March 9, 2008: Dani is home from USU for spring break. Emily and Bria are is Las Vegas visiting Chris and Emily. Don and Michelle will take a short trip April 4-6 while Brady is in Texas visiting Emily and Dave.

All of the kids were able to come home for Christmas: Chris and McCall from Las Vegas, Emily and Dave from Lewisville TX, Becky and Ryan from Syracuse NY, and Dani from Logan UT. It was fun to have everybody home for the holidays.

Here's a recap of 2007:

Brady was the number 5 seed in the District high school tennis championships October 10-20. Brady won his first match, but subsequently lost to the top seeded player in the tournament.

Don attended the International City Management Association annual conference in Pittsburgh, PA October 6-10. He attended the BYU MPA Association 's Sunday testimony meeting and Monday evening Alumni dinner.

Michelle is back in school teaching 4th grade. She is doing quite a bit of "train the trainer" work, training teachers how to better teach various elementary school math and science curricula. She has done several trainings this year, and has requested to do a few others before the end of the year, including a return trip to San Francisco. Don joined her July 20-22 for a weekend vacation at the end of the training (see photos).

The family had a summer reunion July 28-August 4th at Snowbird, UT.

They returned to Utah the 3rd week of August for Becky and Ryan's BYU graduation ceremony, and helped them load up their things to move to Syracuse NY, where they are both attending graduate school (Becky in social work, and Ryan in IT.

At the end of August Don and Michelle took Dani to Logan, UT to attend Utah State University. She has nice room mates, and is doing well. She is playing the piano in church, and got a job at a tanning parlor. She was bitten by a spider and had to have a Tetnus shot and antibiotics, but has recovered.

Brady went BYU tennis camp July 16-20. He has started fall tennis at the high school, and was named the number 1 tennis player on his Curtis HS team - pretty good for a sophomore. To date, he has won most of his matches.

Don is working for the City of Bonney Lake as their City Administrator. He is playing in the Tacoma Community College (TCC) Symphonic Band. He is still involved in his other hobby – archery. He doesn’t have as much time to shoot, but found time to attend the World Archery Festival in February (which was in Las Vegas). He was able to visit Chris, McCall and grandson Cash. At church, Don teaches the Valiant 10 class in primary and is the seminary principal, and the cub master for the cub scout pack.

In February, Don's mother, Vernell, passed away. She died peacefully just 2 months shy of her 96th Birthday. She had a nice funeral service in Tremonton, with most family members able to attend.

Emily and Dave live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Their blog address is http://theparmas.blogspot.com/

Becky and Ryan are in graduate school at Syracuse, NY. Their blog address is http://thegleeds.blogspot.com/

Don the Archer

As part of his mid-life crisis, Don took up a couple of his high school hobbies after a 30 year lay off. One was playing the trumpet (he has played in the LCB jazz ensemble and the TCC Community symphonic band). The other HS hobby was archery. He is currently on the Board of Directors of both Skookum Archers (Secretary), and the Washington State Archery Association (WSAA) as the Public Relations Director. For 7 years, Don produced an 8 page newsletter for Skookum Archers. Don took this photo to include in his final edition. Don has won a couple of state titles for his division (he isn't that good but doesn't always have a lot of competition among the old farts in his class). He placed 2nd in the Marked 3-D Nationals in 2006.

Don and 3-D/Hunting Bow

Every month for the last 7 years, Don has produced an 8 page newsletter for Skookum Archers. Don took this photo to include in his final edition next month. Finally, the Club has found someone else to do the newsletter, which are posted online on the Skookum archery site. Don will be glad to have a break from the monthly chore.
